DIVINE (MG)

Divine (mg) examines the transfer of authority from religion to medicine. Three embroidered Xanax tablets are presented on white toast and placed on a silver-plated tray, preserving the visual structure of Communion while replacing the sacrament with a pharmaceutical dose. The work does not position medicine and religion as opposites; instead, it identifies the ritual logic they share. Both give suffering a name, place its interpretation in the hands of an authority, and offer a prescribed procedure through which relief may be obtained. The tablet becomes a contemporary devotional object: controlled, mediated, and approached through permission. What has changed is not the need for consolation, but the institution entrusted to provide it.
