OCCUPYING TWILIGHT

Occupying Twilight began with the historical ritual of the lamplighter, whose daily act marked the transition between daylight and darkness. As electric lighting became widespread, this ritual disappeared and cities grew increasingly detached from the changing conditions of natural light. The project proposes an architecture centred on interaction with light. Movement through the building is structured around the progression from daylight to twilight to darkness, while a ritual of lighting and extinguishing the central lamp marks sunrise and sunset. The spaces between these moments draw attention to twilight itself—not as an absence of light, but as a distinct atmospheric condition.
