KNEELER

Kneeler brings together two systems built to mediate between the individual and an invisible authority: religious devotion and digital communication. A nineteenth-century prayer kneeler is overlaid with an embroidered computer interface in which Orthodox icons appear as files, prayers become digital commands, and a response is returned as an error. Rather than opposing religion and technology, the work considers how acts of confession, trust, and dependence migrate between them. If prayer has long been sustained by the possibility of silence, the appearance of a response introduces a different condition—not confirmation, but the failure of communication itself.
